Mcallan has launched its final exclusive single malt whisky from its Golden Age of Travel range.
The latest and final release of this unique collection features a limited edition crystal decanter styled on The Air Ship. The collection was originally launched back in 2015 and has previously featured modes of transport popular in the 1930s, including a steam train, aeroplane, cruise liner and motor car.
The 2019 addition to the collection is The Air Ship, filled with whisky distilled in 1940, which was bottled in 1975, and has now been transferred to these engraved crystal decanters made by French glassmakers Lalique. It is currently priced at $50,000 (£38,000).
Each decanter resembles a travelling whisky flask and is engraved with a picture of an air ship. The stopper has the Wind Rose engraved on it, which was a common feature of 1930s maps. Each decanter in the range is presented in a beautiful leather trunk, a scaled-down version of the travel trunks used during this period, and comes with a book describing the history of the air ship and the tasting notes for the whisky.

“The Macallan 1940 is an exceptional liquid that is testament to the golden age of travel, and the period of glamour and style it represents.”
Only 50 decanters have been created for this exclusive range, and two have been reserved for The Macallan and Lalique as part of their archives, thus giving the collection potential good investment value.
